12 month placement
London / Recovery and Reorganisation
Loughborough University

Recovery and Reorganisation is quite a specialised area, dealing with firms in administration or liquidation which is what attracted me initially to the role. One reason I wanted to work for Grant Thornton was because I didn’t want to be just another person in a large firm, I wanted to get noticed. I’ve been on placement here for five weeks now and I’m really enjoying it. It’s definitely more challenging than I expected, you get to do some serious work and are given responsibility early on which means you become part of the team straight away. You’re well supported – you get a buddy who stays with you for the year who you can ask questions whenever you need to. It’s the variety of the work that is one of the key things that keeps me excited. I’ve been working on trading cases, where a company has gone into administration and we’re running the company for them. One of my main jobs is paying suppliers and distributing dividends to the creditors. We’re encouraged to do as much as we can – which has really brought on my confidence. I’ve also been on two courses so far; one basic insolvency course and the other on how to use all the online systems. I’ve learnt so much already. The only downside is getting up early, which is a bit different from university!
